Works with Oracle Hyperion

HFM to Power BI

Conncise brings your HFM data into Power BI automatically, with its structure intact: hierarchies, relationships and business logic. Totals match HFM, and drill-downs reach every base entity.

The situation

The close finishes in HFM. The pack is still built by hand.

Hyperion Financial Management has run the group close for years, and it still does the job. The reporting around it is where the hours go: Smart View retrieves refreshed sheet by sheet, extracts saved as this month's file, the same pack rebuilt in Excel and PowerPoint, close after close. Power BI could take that over, if the numbers arrived with their structure still attached.

No connector

No connector ever came.
The workaround became the routine.

HFM predates Power BI by a decade, and a native connection between the two never appeared. So teams improvise: Extended Analytics pushed to a database, flat-file extracts, a Smart View workbook someone refreshes by hand each month.

Whichever route, what lands in Power BI is flat. Entities are separated from their parents, accounts from their types, and the logic HFM applied during consolidation stays behind. Rebuilding all of that means hand-made dimension tables, DAX for every rollup, and a model that breaks the moment the structure moves.

Conncise makes the connection HFM never had. It reads metadata and consolidated data from your application, and generates the Power BI semantic model from them, automatically.

How it works

From HFM to Power BI, without the monthly rebuild.

All of it runs in your own Azure tenant. Your teams open Power BI and build on a model that is already right.

01

Connects to HFM

Conncise connects to your application and reads the metadata and consolidated data you scope. Nothing changes in HFM.

02

Generates the model

Entities, accounts and custom dimensions become
a proper Power BI model: tables, relationships, hierarchies, logic.

03

Stays current

Loads run on the schedule you set. When the structure changes in HFM, the model follows in the same run.

A modern reporting setup, on the consolidation system you already trust.
What comes through

Totals match HFM.

What the export chain drops is what Conncise generates, and keeps current.

HFM does real work between base data and group total: currency translation, eliminations, ownership. Those results come through as HFM calculated them. What you drill into is what HFM reported. And once it is in the model, Finance can analyze it instead of copying it.

  • HierarchiesEntity and account trees, as your application defines them.
  • Account typesRevenue, Expense, Asset, Liability: each aggregates by its type.
  • Drill-downFrom group total down to base entities.
  • Alternate rollupsShared entities, without the double counting.
  • Custom
    dimensions
All of yours come through, with their hierarchies.
Control for IT

No new platform to run.

Conncise is software in your Azure tenant, under your Entra ID. It connects to HFM on-premises or hosted, and it is live within a week.

FAQ

Common questions.

Is there a Power BI connector for HFM?

No, there never was one. Conncise makes the connection: it reads your HFM application and brings both the data and its structure into Power BI. Totals roll up, drill-downs work.

Does Conncise work with HFM on-premises?

Yes. On-premises or hosted, the connection works the same way.

Do we need to change anything in HFM?

No. Your application stays exactly as it is. Nothing gets installed or configured on the HFM side.

Do numbers in Power BI match HFM?

Yes. Conncise takes the consolidated results as HFM calculated them, with account types and rollups intact. The total you see in Power BI is the total HFM reported.

What happens when our HFM structure changes?

New entities, moved accounts, a changed rollup: the model updates automatically, along with your data. No rework in Power BI.

We plan to replace HFM eventually. Does Conncise still make sense?

Yes. Your reporting gets fixed now, not after the migration. And Conncise also works with Oracle Cloud EPM and OneStream, so the approach moves with you.

How long does implementation take?

Within a week. Conncise installs as software in your own Azure tenant, without a consultancy project around it.

Running Oracle Cloud EPM (Planning, FCCS), OneStream or Essbase? Each has its own page. For the full picture, see the solution overview.
